DevOps Engineer

The Role:

We are looking for a DevOps Engineer to partner with the What If Media Group’s Software Engineers and rapidly iterate on a variety of ad-tech and CMS software. We are an AWS shop utilizing a diverse constellation of their PaaS and IaaS offerings. We are looking for an individual contributor who can focus on continuous improvement not just in the systems they own but on the processes around them. Help us test and deploy software systems that operate on both the lead generation and direct marketing sides of the ad-tech and mar-tech spaces.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Participate in our engineering review process, helping to design and support the architecture (with special attention to infrastructure) of our production systems

  • Evolve our cloud systems into highly available, scalable, fault-tolerant, and secure configurations

  • Maintain multiple environments for integration, staging, and production systems across a variety of regions

  • Improve and develop disaster recovery procedures

  • Expand system monitoring and work with the engineering teams to build higher resolution instrumentation of our applications

  • Triage issues, conduct root cause analysis and assemble postmortems following issues in production infrastructure

  • Administer systems using automated configuration management utilities

  • Maintain and improve project plans and documentation of all system builds and modifications

You Today:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in a STEM-related discipline

  • 3+ years of prior professional experience

Skills:

Required

  • Solid knowledge of Linux-based systems administration
  • Experience in cloud IaaS and PaaS products (with a strong preference for AWS) 

  • Infrastructure as code and configuration management: Terraform, Ansible 

  • Observability tools: Elastic Stack, Prometheus 

    Experience with configuring networking in a complex virtualized environment 

  • Demonstrated experience with design, operation, and troubleshooting of complex virtualized environments 

  • Experience with integration systems 

  • Strong organizational skills with careful attention to detail 

    Provide emergency support as needed with rotating on-call duties on nights and weekends

  • Testing frameworks: Jest, Jasmine, Junit, PHPUnit, and Selenium
  • AWS services: EKS, ECS, EC2, RDS, SQS, Lambda, Route53, API Gateway, and Fargate
  • Data Streaming: Kafka, AWS Kinesis
  • Databases: PostgreSQL, MariaDB, MongoDB, DynamoDB
  • Version Control & CI/CD: GitLab
