Remembering Our Friend: The First Annual Eric Ewing Volleyball Social
On September 7th, What If Media Group held our first annual Volleyball Social in honor of Eric Ewing, our friend and colleague who passed away last year.
Eric started with What If in 2018. His intelligence and the quality of his work were immediately impactful, and he quickly found friends among his peers. In 2019 Eric was diagnosed with cancer. Even through rounds of treatment, he remained dedicated to living his life, sharing with us a unique sense of humor, hidden talents, and love for music, movies, and sports, among other things. He was a joy to so many, and we miss him.
We saw no better way to honor Eric’s memory than to gather his co-workers and local friends for an evening of games and good vibes on the Hudson River. It was a beautiful, hot night in Tribeca — perfect for cold drinks and warm remembrances.
In addition to the event, What If donated $10,000 to Vanderbilt University Medical Center to support the colorectal cancer research of Dr. Kristen Ciombor, who cared for Eric during his treatment.
His parents, Phillip and Angela Ewing, had this to say:
“[Our family is] truly thankful for the What If Media Group management, employees, and friends that organized and participated in this wonderful event in honor of our son’s memory. I cannot imagine a more caring and compassionate organization. Eric’s management and colleagues at What If Media Group supported and encouraged him during his long battle with colorectal cancer and have continued to honor his memory through donations to the Vanderbilt University Cancer Research and Treatment Center.
“What If Media Group sets a new standard in showing compassion for their employees, and What If Media Group supports organizations that are improving the health and wellness of everyone. I can say without a doubt, What If Media Group Cares! Thank You from the bottom of our hearts.”
